The Executive Session on Police Leadership (ESPL) began in late 2010. It was underwritten by a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (US DOJ) in collaboration with St. Petersburg College’s Center for Public Safety Innovation (FL). Taking the long view, the project directors recruited a group of multi-disciplined public safety professionals to develop innovative thinking on the future of policing. The story of the project through 2014 is contained in An Overview of the Approach.
This web site launched in 2014. The Bureau of Justice Assistance awarded the Executive Session team a new grant in November 2015. As our work continues, we have engaged with new and emerging leaders to focus on current issues influencing public safety and police leadership. In 2017, we initiated periodic eBlasts to inform our large audience of new web entries.
